Infuse your games with power using Clinhyde Eight, a mobile assassin with high risk and even higher reward!
Backstory
"It's not a question of whether I can win. Only—is it worth what it will cost me?"
Born in a laboratory in the northern technocracy of Willat, Clinhyde is a homunculus—an artificial lifeform created with alchemy. Because of this, his body is capable of processing many kinds of stimulants and toxins, giving him the ability to move in the blink of an eye, unleash incredible strength, and access limited psionic powers.
These powers come at a cost, and Clinhyde must use them sparingly as he pursues missions for his masters, the enigmatic council of scientists and mages that rule his homeland. As a member of the national black ops force—Division 13—Clinhyde is sent across the world on dangerous secret missions which he carries out from the shadows.
Pros
- Amazing ambush and backdoor capabilities.
- Gives the team access to excellent speed control artifacts.
- Great conduit for discovered combos thanks to his unique tricks.
Cons
- Ability is fairly risky and requires resources to use.
- Attacks have mediocre power stats, requiring artifact support to succeed.
Gameplay

Since his first appearance in BattleCON: Devastation, Clinhyde has always been a character who pairs high risk with high reward. In Wardens, his unique ability allows him to move and attack in the same turn—a deadly combination that gives him the drop on characters who would prefer to keep him at arm’s length.
This ability comes with a cost—a card at random from your hand. In order to make your attack a sure thing, you’ll need to come into the attack with a significant card advantage, or have at least 2 cards you plan to play. Of course, you can also just take the risk.
Team Role
Clinhyde is an assassin-class warden, and that means he’s built to put opponents in dangerous situations. If an opponent approaches one of your allies, Clinhyde could race across the map and attack preemptively. If they leave their throne unguarded, they won’t have a turn to react before Clinhyde can move into striking range and capitalize. He can turn an out of position ally into a flanking bonus in a moment.
Able to threaten from a wide range, Clinhyde can be used to cover allies or threaten opponents. He benefits from team members that can build upon his pressure—such as supporters and tanks.
Card Preview
Shock Strike

Simple and effective. The keyword Crush means that if Clinhyde hits first, and hits a combatant, they won’t be able to retaliate. This means that Shock Strike will be most effective when you can force a target to defend themselves—usually this means an isolated target or a tank. It’s significantly more effective on the attack, when you can break ties for speed in your favor.
Lucky Break is a chance to alter your hand. It’s great when Clinhyde is in a position, or up against a team, where Shock Strike won’t be very effective.
Gravity Breaker

A very weird attack with specific range, Gravity Breaker has a great synergy with Clinhyde’s unique ability. It allows him to pick an opponent out of position and drop them in the middle of his allies. This is best used on isolated foes, as Clinhyde doesn’t really have the tools to survive when dropped alone into a group of enemies.
Another great use is to rush Clinhyde somewhere inconsequential, then Gravity Breaker an enemy warden into that position, effectively costing them a turn while placing Clinhyde somewhere relevant for board control.
Speed Potion is important for confirming many of Clinhyde’s skills, and will enhance the ability of slower heroes acting on the offense.
Phase Fuser

A potentially crushing attack that scales with the quality of artifacts in your deck. Being able to move a second ally with Talkstone, being able to retreat again suddenly with Rocket Boots, or getting an extra +3 Power out of Crisis Badge can completely overwhelm an unsuspecting opponent.
As a notable case, Lucky Break can combine with Phase Fuser to introduce additional artifacts during the middle of a strike, potentially providing unconventional value to these tools.
Break Potion gives allies access to the Crush ability mentioned earlier on Shock Strike. This will improve the performance of your whole team on the offensive, but especially faster fighters.
Frenzy (Normal)

Frenzy is a low-power, high-speed melee attack that guarantees the user an extra turn. Because of its weak power and lack of other advantages, Frenzy works best when it can be paired with artifacts that require speed to confirm, such as the aforementioned Break Potion
Paralyzing Toxin is great against isolated targets and on defense. It can mitigate the speed of rival assassins or confirm speed-based attacks against targets who can reasonably challenge them on defense.
Conclusion
With quick strikes and crazy off-angle surprises, Clinhyde is a valuable asset for any team that wants to use tempo to their advantage. With teammates that create space and let him sneak-up on unsuspecting high-value targets, Clinhyde will surely provide value when activated at the right time.
